OUR SCHOOL

HISTORY    PHILOSOPHY    STRENGTHS    TRADITIONS
  • The Academy has been family-run since its inception in 1969. Founded by Marshall H. Lombardo, the school is administered by his daughter, Director Gina Claudeanos, with support from her siblings Sarah and Marshall Lombardo.

“The school is a gem. A great home-away-from-home school in feel and size.”

   – Mirka Breen, parent

  • Our unique double textbook policy allows students to have one set of books to keep at home and another remaining at school, thus relieving students from the physical strain of carrying heavy books back and forth and they always have the texts they need on hand. Another benefit: Students are left with ample space in their lockers and backpacks for binders and supplemental materials.

  • Small class sizes: A maximum of 16 students per class enables personal relationships between teachers and students that nurture a sense of trust, community and accountability; no child goes unnoticed.

“I tell parents that their child cannot 'slip through the cracks’ at The Academy.”

   – Ellen and Dennis Baker, parents

  • The great diversity in students’ cultural and ethnic backgrounds makes for an inclusive and accepting spirit within our community where everyone is welcome.

“When my husband and I found The Academy, we felt we had found a safe haven from the turbulent waters of local elementary education. In contrast to our experience at other schools, The Academy believes its primary mission is the delivery of a rigorous and traditional academic curriculum. At the same time, the school has a far more diverse student body than our neighborhood’s public school. We appreciate in particular its international outlook.”

   – Parent of seventh grader and first grader

  • High academic standards can be seen in our structured classrooms, tests, quizzes and report cards; according to the CPT4, every class at The Academy scores in the national top percentile. Our graduates typically are accepted by prestigious private schools or wherever they wish to continue their education.

“My son has flourished academically and socially.”

   – Ranelch Ranjbin, parent

  • Warm, personal atmosphere: The school fosters a small, close-knit and welcoming community where friendships are built that last beyond college; students grow attached to The Academy and return regularly for special events

“Warmth, individual attention, encouragement of individuality and (not least), great academics.”

   –Joanne Cohn, parent

  • After-School and Daycare programs throughout the school year and during summer offer a variety of academic and recreational classes.

“I value and recommend the outstanding after-care program run by Catherine, a fun, caring and mature teacher, [and] I prefer The Academy’s 'pay-for-what you-use’ after-care policy as opposed to a flat fee.”

   – Xanthippe Phillips, parent
