The Academy offers an accelerated educational program designed to meet the
needs of motivated learners. Students receive the tools and encouragement
they need to meet academic goals. In the process, they develop a passion for
learning. The curriculum is rich in opportunities for creativity and personal
expression. All members of the school community are encouraged to treat each
other with courtesy and respect.
An enrollment of approximately 120 students enables The Academy to provide
individualized attention to students and close communication with parents.
Class size is limited to 16 students so no child will ever feel lost in a crowd.
The Academy brings together learners with a wide range of life experiences. The school community has a rich international flavor and many languages are spoken in the schoolyard. Our students are ethnically, culturally and socio-economically diverse. Many live as close as Berkeley and Oakland while others travel to The Academy from as far as Pleasanton and Fremont.
Students in the Lower School (kindergarten through fifth grade) study reading, writing, mathematics and social studies with a homeroom teacher everyday. In addition, they receive regular lessons with specialist teachers in science, French, art, music, computers and physical education.
Students in the Upper School (sixth through eighth grade) move from room to
room for classes in a variety of subjects. Specialists teach English, history
and social studies, mathematics, science, French, Latin, art studio, art history,
music history, and physical education.
