The Academy is an independent, co-educational school for students in kindergarten through eighth grade. The school offers a structured and accelerated academic program for motivated and eager learners.
While the curriculum is traditional and academic, it is also rich in opportunities for creative experience and expression. The Academy prizes creativity and self-expression.
Class sizes are limited to just 16 students, enabling academic cohesiveness while also accommodating individual academic needs. Standards of excellence are fostered in a supportive and nurturing atmosphere that enriches faculty and students alike.
“The headmaster feels the strength of the school is the ‘caliber of its students.' Indeed, the students are learning very advanced topics and seemed focused on learning. The school philosophy is to challenge its students and to accommodate high achievers. Nonetheless, the school has a relaxed, informal atmosphere.”

Our Community
The school has a warm family atmosphere. The school community is diverse – ethnically, culturally, and socio-economically – and this range of ideas and experiences is celebrated at the school every day. Students get to know each other across age and background differences to build a tight community, and many friendships are formed that last well beyond their years at The Academy. Many of our former students return for annual or special events and stay in close touch with the school years after they have moved on.
At The Academy, character and conduct are prized as highly as academic excellence. All members of The Academy family–staff, students, and parents–treat each other with courtesy and respect.
Students are encouraged to dress comfortably and appropriately for school and to leave toys, games and other distractions at home. We strive to maintain a relaxed environment where students can enjoy each other's company without focusing on outward appearances or material possessions.
“One of the remarkable things about the school is its diversity. Fully 45% of the student body is non-Caucasian. The school admits students solely on merit, and there is no preference given to minorities, but over the years the school has managed to attract a diverse following.”

Our Parents
At The Academy, parents are always welcome in the classroom. We encourage mothers and fathers to participate in their children's daily activities. Teachers maintain an ongoing and open line of communication regarding student progress. Parents receive regular report cards, ERB test results, and attend individual parent-teacher conferences. Equally important are the informal conversations that take place every day among teachers, parents and students. The limited class size ensures that no child has concerns or issues that go unnoticed.
We recognize that families have demanding and busy schedules but we require parents to volunteer in the classroom at least 15 hours per family each year. Parental involvement helps children learn in the best possible environment.
