General Programs
Fieldtrips
Classes are supplemented by field trips related to classroom studies. The school makes use of the Bay Area's extensive
resources such as parks, public libraries, museums, the University of California, Lawrence Hall of Science, San Francisco
Opera, A.C.T. and other specialized facilities.
Study Hall
Academic help is available daily after school. Study Hall provides a quiet environment in which students can work and receive
support from teachers. Specialized help in science and mathematics is offered every day in the Science Room.
Lunch Program
Lunches are available to pre-purchase each weekday. On Monday through Wednesday, the school partners with
Taste of Paradise Catering to provide nutritious lunches that are delivered fresh daily.
On Thursday students may order slices of cheese or pepperoni pizza.
Fridays the school offers its own lunch program featuring hot dogs, bagels, fresh fruit, vegetables and other delicious
choices.
Milk is available for free at lunchtime for all students every day. Students may bring
a snack to eat during morning recess.
ERB Tests
The school administers the Educational Records Bureau (ERB) tests in mathematics and the language arts annually to all students
above first grade. This provides an independent measure of student achievements and a diagnostic tool to identify areas that may
need attention. It also helps students become familiar with taking standardized tests, which are an unavoidable part of the educational
journey to high school and college. Scores of students at The Academy consistently rank well above the national average of independent
schools, according to CPT4 academic scores.
Parent Participation
We recognize that families have demanding and busy schedules but we require parents to volunteer in the classroom at least 20 hours per
family each year. Parental involvement helps children learn in the best possible environment.
